Opal Gem for Legacy Ankhs

Description

ANKH SOLD SEPARATELY.

Opals are offered as an addition to any First, Second or Third Generation Ankh in the Legacy Ankh Collection and as studs for Ankh Earrings.

Colors:

Opals were created from layers of silica slurry became compressed over millennia in rock cracks. Because opals, by definition, are hydrated silica, they still contain 3%-30% water. The silica within the gem is what gives Opals their distinctive sparkle. Opals in all colors can sparkle with a rainbow hues depending on clarity . Some, however, display more muted colors due to being more opaque or "Milky".

Legacy Ankhs may only hold gems ranging in colors from white/clear, grey, blacks, purples, reds and occasionally amber.

Colors offered here include Milky White. Looking for a grey, "cherry" or "fire" opal? Let us know via the shop chat or email us at contact@vamporium.shop and we will help you find a stone.

Sizes:

  • First Generation "D" Gem Customizations have the option of a 6MM Oval smooth or faceted cabochon Opal.

 About Opals:

As writers have described it, opal is like a breathtaking volcano, a dazzling galaxy, and a mesmerizing firework display. The names given to this gem, such as Pandora, Light of the World, and Empress, reflect its otherworldly beauty. In ancient Rome, opal was a powerful symbol of love and hope, earning the name "opalus," which meant "precious stone."

The Roman scholar Pliny, in 75 AD, marveled at its kaleidoscopic nature, comparing it to the colors of the most vibrant paintings. Across many cultures, opal has been attributed with supernatural origins and magical powers. Legends say it is a gift from the heavens, while the ancient Greeks believed it could grant the gift of prophecy and protect against illness.

Even today, opal is treasured as an October birthstone, though a 19th century novel may have falsely labeled it as unlucky for those born in other months. Coming from a novel called "Anne of Geierstein" written by Sir Walter Scott, the superstition is not from any ancient practice or superstition. In fact, throughout most of history, opal has been regarded as the luckiest and most magical of all gems because of its rainbow colored reflections.
